چکیده

New electronic architectures and mechatronic integration in automotive and oil-field applications lead to increasing requirements concerning operating temperatures and vibration levels. At the same time, reliability and lifetime have to fulfil strong demands. In the European funded project PROCURE (Program for the development of passive devices used in rough environments) a generic spectrum of passive components needed for electronic control units has been developed. The failure mechanisms, the technological challenges, and the test requirements are highlighted below.

A Perspective on the Reliability of MEMS-Based Components for Telecommunications

Despite the initial skepticism of OEM companies regarding reliability, MEMS-based devices are increasingly common in optical networking. This presentation will discuss the use and reliability of MEMS in a variety of network applications, from tunable lasers and filters to variable optical attenuators and dynamic channel equalizers. The failure mechanisms of these devices will be addressed in te...

Measurements and Characterization of Photovoltaic Modules for Tolerance Verification

One of the most important aspects of photovoltaic modules is reliability for future uses, that is, a certain module will last certain number of years in use (generally 30 or 35 years). Reliability yields from excellent qualification tests on photovoltaic (PV) modules. Testing for reliability identifies unknown failure mechanisms and whether modules are susceptible to known failure mechanisms. T...

“Qualification of DC Brush Motors used in Spacecraft Missions using Logistic Regression Model - An Analytical Approach”

-DC brush motor undergoes rigorous performance testing to predict the failures occurring. Acceptance test levels are set with margin expected flight/operations levels and qualification test levels are set above the expected operation levels to check for the survivability of DC brush motor in space. Performance testing is important to design and integration in a planned test process in which DC ...

A review of worldwide practice and experience in the qualification of ultrasonic inspections of nuclear components over the past two decades

Inspection qualification is the term currently used to describe the process of independent assessment of a specific non-destructive test to ensure that it is capable of meeting its objectives. Such activities carried out on the Sizewell B reactor inspections were referred to as validation. In the USA, the term performance demonstration is used, though this is increasingly being reserved for the...

Monte Carlo Simulation of BGA Failure Distributions for Virtual Qualification

Any approach to qualification of advanced technologies during product development must include an assessment of variation expected in product life over the life cycle. However, testing product design options in development, to approach an optimal design, is costly and time consuming. Hence, simulation of product life distributions for virtual qualification, can be a valuable tool to evaluate an...
